The first day match of the season and it is a battle between the Royals. Will they survive the scorching heats and give each other a tough day at the office?
Let’s have a look at some key battles for the match.
Padikal is the best thing that has happened to RCB this year. He has hit 2 half-centuries in 3 matches and has smashed sixes to the reputed international bowlers. He knows when to be the second fiddle in the partnership and when to attack. He will look to capitalize on the start he has got in the season. Gopal on the other hand has had a mixed performance so far. He has chipped in with wickets on fewer occasions but in their last encounter against the KKR, he went for too many runs. Being the lead spinner of the RR line up, Shreyas will have to take up the onus of keeping it tight in the middle overs. Both youngsters would want to do overpower each other.
ABD once again did what he has been doing for many years now. Scores runs, scores them quickly, scores them when the team is in a need. Maybe he is a superhuman after all because there are none errs in his performances. With Kohli not able to found his touch yet, ABD will look to continue doing so for as long as he can. Archer bowled a beautiful spell against KKR, 4 overs, 18 for 2. He had an average speed of 147 and it takes a lot of skill to face this bowler. Archer has led from the front and made sure he lives up to the expectations of the skipper. If there are few bowlers who can restrict ABD from hitting those 360 shots, Archer got to be one of them. This battle will be one of the most exciting of the tournament so far.
Buttler is finding it difficult to time the ball perfectly. Although he looked in good touch against KKR, he fell off while looking to accelerating the scoreboard. Even though RR has lost only 1 match yet, things won’t be much scary for them but an in-form Buttler can make them win matches single-handedly. Saini, Oh Boy what a spell he had against MI. Bowling against well set Kishan–Pollard duo, not giving enough in the penultimate over and then restricting them to a 7 during the super over. Is Saini finally the solution to RCB’s death bowling stress? Will get to see if he knocks the dangerous top 3 of RR out and drills into that inexperienced middle order.
Samson has batted effortlessly in the first 2 matches. He was still in the hungover of Sharjah and gave away his wicket while hitting against KKR. If stats are to be believed then for the last 3 years, he bats beautifully in the first 2 matches and then has a horrible rest of the season. Samson would want to prove those stats wrong with consistent performances. Chahal, the best spin bowler in today’s era has shown why he so highly rated and why he is to the go-to man of Kohli. He can bowl during any course of the match and with his inspirational performances makes sure others as well are bowling to their capabilities. This battle between Samson and Chahal will surely be a match deciding one.
